Cape Town enjoys one of the most spectacular and beautiful locations of any city in the world. It is nestled at the foot of the rugged Table Mountain, and looks out over the Atlantic Ocean from the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Cape Town is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country, and although it does not offer the same kind of access to game reserves as Johannesburg, Cape Town more than makes up for this shortfall with the local beauty and the attractions that are accessible within easy reach of the city centre.
Amongst the highlights of Cape Town itself, the Victoria And Albert Waterfront is the tourist hub of the city, and boasts many restaurants, bars and museums. Younger travellers will enjoy the lively nightlife on Long Street, and there are a number of beaches within easy reach of the city.
No visitor to Cape Town should miss out on the chance to climb to the top of Table Mountain (or take the cable car) and the views from the top are spectacular.
Cape Town is a great place from which to explore south Africa, and local highlights include the famous Garden Route self drive holiday along the coast as far as Port Elizabeth, or alternatively the chance to explore the villages of the Cape Winemaking region such as Stellenbosch.
